Spring is here FINALLY!

Well, although it doesn't really seem like it, let's say it's nearly here.

We can't wait to shed the layers and get cracking with some gardening, getting things in order for a great coming growing season and just getting out and enjoying the fresh air!

To kick of things, lots of excited children have been coming to West End Women and Girls Centre from local primary schools to start the new cycle of our Seeds 4 Life project, all around giving children a healthy boost in life, involving learning healthy cooking recipes, keeping fit with Change 4 Life and getting stuck in the community garden and growing their slice of the pizza garden with wheat, salads, herbs, beans and more, all to harvest and make their own pizzas later in the year.

We'll be hosting our Edible Elswick Spring into Spring event on Friday 6th April (11am-1pm), during the Easter half-term, in Elswick Park. We'll be putting on some art and craft activities hosted by local artist, Michele Allen, there'll be delicious free healthy food, Active Newcastle will be running fun tennis activities on the courts, the Edible Elswick team will be helping visitor plant up seeds in a pot to take home, West End Community Bakery will be popping up selling its yum baked goods and more! Help us spread the word. ALL WELCOME!

In the run up to the 6th April event, we'll be hosting two spring clean Tidy up and Plant sessions on the Bentinck and Jubilee Estates in Elswick, working in partnership with Your Homes Newcastle. At these events we'll be running community litter picks with residents and getting residents to plant up pots of edibles and flowers to take home and grow. Plus - free healthy refreshments will be on off.  We'll be on the Bentinck Estate Tuesday 3rd April (11am-1pm) and the Jubilee Estate Wednesday 4th April (11am-1pm).

We're excited to announce that our Elswick Garden Neighbours Project will be starting on Monday 26th March. This project is all about bringing neighbours together, helping each other to improve their gardens and near by green spaces.  The time exchange model of the project means residents sign up for a number of sessions in order to receive a free mini garden makeover and along the way get to know their neighbours and help improve the look of the local area. If you live on the Bentinck Estate or Mill Farm Close in Elswick, get in touch with us. Email hello@edibleelswick.co.uk or call 0191 2734942.

We have lots more events and activities that will be coming up in the year. Watch this space to keep up to do or alternatively follow us on social media - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

Happy Spring!
